About Us

Heartleaf Books is more than a bookstore -- it's a cooperative: a place for people to gather, learn, and explore. Heartleaf Books offers a thoughtfully curated selection of new & used books, art, and gifts for everyone, from babies to centenarians. We exist to inspire and challenge our members and customers with the power of the written word.

Founded in summer 2021 by sisters and librarians, Caroline Vericker and Mads Vericker, Heartleaf Books began as a pop-up shop, selling mostly used books at local markets. We opened our brick-and-mortar store in September 2022 with the help of our membership and the Cooperative Fund of the Northeast. Located at 374 Atwells Ave, Heartleaf is in the heart of Federal Hill on Providence's west side.

As a cooperative, Heartleaf Books is community-driven and lead by the membership. We have a seven-member Board of Directors, consisting of the two worker-owners (Caroline and Mads) and five consumer-owners, who were instrumental in launching the cooperative and securing the retail store location. Please consider becoming a member today!
